In order to achieve the Ming Chuan University principle of “one mission and three goals” and cultivate learning and application abilities in students, the University is devoted to nurture its students with professional core competencies and significant basic capacities, and ensure students earn certification of their basic capacities for future workplace applications.

  • Once you have met the criteria, the system will automatically show a ‘pass’; no application is needed. Please log in to Student Information System o query your status for each of the Ten Pillars.
  • 10 pillars, students who have achieved excellence in at least four pillars in accordance with the criteria of each pillar may apply online for assessment of excellence through Student Information System. Upon approval, students will be awarded Certification of Excellent 10 Pillars Competency and a Letter of Recommendation from MCU President.

  • What are the 10 Pillars?
    The 10 Pillars combine traditional education characteristics of Morals, Knowledge, Health, Teamwork, and Aesthetics, and the operations abilities for modern society: Planning, Communication, Technology, Internationalization and Employment. These basic competencies are consistent with the professional core competencies established by the Schools and Departments, as efficient means to construct a complete blueprint for holistic education.
     
  • Why do I need to pass the 10 Pillars?
    The 10 Pillars include learning in various fields, which is not only evidence of interdisciplinary abilities, but also of holistic education. Students will be awarded Ten Pillars Certificate immediately upon completion of the 10 Pillars, which will not only bolster their resume for assisting with their first employment, but also demonstrate to companies that the individual possesses various competencies for facing challenges in the workplace.
     
  • What is the advantage of earning Certification of Excellent 10 Pillars Competency?
    Students are encouraged to challenge themselves to earn the Certification of Excellent 10 Pillars Competency after earning the Ten Pillars Certificate by passing assessment for excellence in four or more Pillars. Such students will be presented with Certification of Excellent 10 Pillars Competency and Letter of Recommendation from MCU President, which will be a great boost for your first employment or further study.
     
  • Is there any certification of passing the 10 Pillars?
    Students will be awarded Ten Pillars Certificate for passing all 10 Pillars. Students will be awarded Certification of Excellent 10 Pillars Competency and Letter of Recommendation from President for attaining excellence in three or more Pillars and they may have the opportunity to be awardee representatives during the Graduation Ceremony.
     
  • May I be awarded a certificate for only passing 6 Pillars?
    In accordance with the procedures, students will be awarded Ten Pillars Certificate for passing 10 Pillars. Those who only pass one or a few Pillars are not eligible to earn Ten Pillars Certificate or other related certificate.
     
  • If I don’t pass the 10 Pillars, will it affect my graduation from the institution?
    No it won’t. MCU 10 Pillars is implemented as an encouragement mechanism, established to encourage students in interdisciplinary learning and to build up graduates’ excellent foundation for future employment.
